What is long term memory?

Long term memory can store unlimited amount of information for a very long time, most which you’ll never forget. It requires the formation of a stable, more permanent neural connections in the brain which are strengthened during consolidation and weakened by the lack of retrieval. Long term memory can be categorised into the following groups:

  • Declarative (explicit)
  • Procedural (implicit) memory
